Québec, August 9, 2007 – In launching its new program entitled Programme de bourses du Québec en matière de francophonie canadienne (Québec bursary program for Francophones within Canada), the Government of Québec has given tangible form to another one of the ten core-building actions found in the action plan accompanying its Policy on Francophones within Canada, la Politique du Québec en matière de francophonie canadienne, unveiled on November 7, 2006. The call for candidacies for the awarding of these new bursaries, which will be offered beginning in the spring of 2008, is currently underway and will end on October 17, 2007.
This initiative, which is the result of a partnership between the Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes du Québec (SAIC) and the Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la société et la culture (FQRSC), aims to foster the development of research on Francophones within Canada and to support the training of up-and-coming researchers in this field. These bursaries will be awarded in such a way as to offer financial support to students whose research projects are innovative, open new avenues of research, and provide relevant input in terms of the consolidation and development of the Francophone sphere in Canada, including the strengthening of ties between the Francophones of Québec and those of Francophone and Acadian communities.
