Since 1867, Québec has taken part in the Canadian political project while affirming its own unique identity. To mark the 150th anniversary of the Canadian federation, the Québec government released its Policy on Québec Affirmation and Canadian Relations (PDF, 194 pages), The Policy defines and names Québec's plural and inclusive national identity, outlines a vision of Québec within Canada, and determines how that vision can be implemented. Since May 2, 2018, the implementation of the Policy has been guided by the Plan d’action 2018-2022 (PDF, 16 pages) (english version available soon) that sets out the actions planned by the Québec government, based on the three guiding principles of the Policy.
The historical overview in the Policy is not intended to be exhaustive, but to highlight, succinctly, the key historical events which facilitate an understanding of Québec's national reality and its relations with Canada as a whole.
